Many young actresses consider themselves lucky if they’re able to land a few roles in small, independent movies. Proving she’s a cut above other aspiring actresses, Tanja Reichert put her face on the map by starring alongside Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr. in “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang” and appearing on Desperate Housewives.

“Everyone was really laid-back and cool and easy-going,” she says of her time on the set of Desperate Housewives. “It was a really nice vibe on the set.”

“I might be biased by what I see on the show and in the media, but I’d have to say Teri Hatcher is the most like her character in real life,” Reichert tells me. “Even though I didn’t have a scene with her, I traveled with her from the set of Wisteria Lane back to where the trailers were. So there are times where you’re interacting with other actors on some level even if you don’t have a scene with them.”

This summer, Reichert will appear alongside Adam Sandler in the comedy, “Click.” “Adam Sandler was so entertaining on the set,” she says. “In the scene, there was a bunch of girls playing the sexy secretaries, of which I was one of them. So, I don’t know if it was just because all the cute girls were around, but he was really funny. [Laughs].”

Now that she has experience acting on both television and film, Reichert says she hopes to maintain a mix of film and TV roles as her career progresses. “I don’t think I’d like to solely focus on one or the other,” she says. “It depends on the specific project. It’ll depend on what’s going on in my life and if I’ll want to be based in one place or traveling around doing different projects.”

She adds, “I had my first experience with a sitcom recently. That was really neat. I really enjoyed that. That’s different in that you rehearse and rehearse, and then the performance is just like doing theatre.”

Although Reichert’s career is now flourishing in Hollywood, she still maintains a residence in her hometown of Vancouver. “The people and the beauty of Vancouver are great,” she says. “There’s so much nature around Vancouver. It’s such a great place for people who are into outdoor activities, which I am.”

She admits Vancouver does have a few downsides as well. “People drive so slow in Vancouver,” she jokes. “I have friends that have come here from Vancouver that are mortified of driving in LA.”

Although the driving in Vancouver may be slow, the city obviously knows how to produce talented actresses, because Tanja Reichert is on the fast track to stardom.
